Promoters will be contracted to work up to 300 hours over the course of their contract, which will start on 1st August 2026 and terminate on 31st July 2027.The role is open to all current undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who will be returning to study for the 2026/27 academic year.About UsGUEST is a student-led initiative to improve the environmental practice of University of Glasgow by engaging with staff and students through events, campaigns and knowledge-share.As a staff branch overseen by Estates and Commercial Services, GUEST is a representative on the Sustainability Working Group Committee, which guides University sustainable practices and strategies.The team consists of 3 coordinators, 8 promoters and a bike mechanic. Each promoter leads one of the 8 individual branches. It is up to the individual promoter and their initiative to determine suitable events and goals as well as manage their yearly projects, with support from the coordinator overseeing their branch. The branches are as follows:Biodiversity - help Estates Department to increase wildlife spaces and conservation on campus, engage with the Biodiversity Working Group to support initiatives related to biodiversity on campus, collaborate with Gardener to run events in GUEST’s green spaces.Gardener - engage with the Viewfield Lane and Wildlife gardens on campus to increase student awareness and interaction with gardening and green spaces. This requires hosting in person garden sessions weekly during term time and guiding a team of garden volunteers.Sustainable Food and Waste- work with GUEST coordinators and the Eco-Hub Manager to manage Student2Student Essentials, host swap-shop events at the Eco-Hub, promote awareness of sustainable food choices, work with university services to promote the implementation of sustainable food and waste practices.Sustainable Labs – work with the Sustainable Lab Adviser and laboratories across campus to raise awareness and increase engagement with the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework. Engage staff and students in sustainable lab practices, run events and workshops to inform staff and students about S-Labs, and encourage labs to enrol in LEAF.Sustainable Transport - campaign for improved active travel infrastructure around campus and the West End, facilitate the Bike Hub repair station on a weekly basis along with the Bike Mechanic, encourage students and staff to use public transport and active travel, organise social bike rides, prepare bike route information material.Graphic Designer - use design software to provide marketing material for GUEST events and initiatives and communicate the work of GUEST to the University community and beyond.Community Engagement – support other branches in engaging the local community in their events and projects, work in partnership with local organisations to improve sustainability in Glasgow, organise events and workshops to promote sustainable practices. Engage with local schools across Glasgow to organise workshops and events around sustainability.Student and Staff Engagement - Work to engage the University community in sustainability practices, Organise Glasgow Goes Green Festival, a yearly festival promoting sustainable practices in Glasgow, as well as other events. Work towards improving environmental sustainability on campus in relation to your appointed branch, by organising events, running campaigns and conducting research into current sustainability practices.2. Take ownership of your branch’s projects, targets and initiatives for the full year in line with the organisation’s overall strategic vision, with the support and guidance given by the project coordinator and Eco-Hub Manager.3. Attend GUEST meetings and ensure smooth communication with the project coordinator, Eco-Hub Manager and the general team to establish a committed and integrated team approach within the organisation.4. Carry out administrative tasks specific to individual GUEST projects throughout the length of placement.5. Provide regular branch progress and learning development reports with the project coordinator, with a view to collate a handover report at the end of placement.6. Support other branches in their campaigns and projects, contributing to the GUEST ethos of creativity, diversity, openness and commitment to campus sustainability.7. Professionally represent the university when attending meetings, both on and off campus.8. Follow existing processes and guidance to ensure that hours worked are logged for the coordinator to review.Requirements:Promoters will be contracted to work up to 300 hours over the course of their contract, which will start on 1st August 2026 and terminate on 31st July 2027.Promoters will be responsible for managing their own time, in collaboration with the rest of the team and their coordinator, depending on the work and projects that need to be done at different points in the year.There is a presumption that GUEST staff will work 10-12 hours per week of term-time, with additional hours to be worked at their discretion. This presumption is flexible, recognising that as students, staff may not be able to work as many hours at certain points of the year. The role is open to all current undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who will be returning to study for the 2026/27 academic year.About UsThe Eco-Hub is a social café space that promotes sustainability on the Gilmorehill campus. The space is open to staff, students and the wider community. The Eco-Hub offers services that benefit both people and the planet and aims to supports people through the cost-of-living crisis by offering free or low-cost goods and services. The Eco-Hub hosts Student2Student Essentials year-round, students can obtain free homeware and stationery as well as donate their second-hand items.The Eco-Hub hosts a permanent swap-shop where you can swap your clothes for free or pay as little as £2.50 for pre-loved clothes. The Eco-Hub sells tea &amp; coffee for 50p a cup when you bring your own mug. The Eco-Hub also hosts regular activities such as bike repair sessions, clothing repair sessions, plant swaps and sustainable crafting.The Eco-Hub is also a space for connection and works as a meeting point for staff, students and the wider community to come together to discuss and build a more sustainable world. Opening and closing the Eco-Hub. Ensuring security measures are taken at the beginning and closing of operating hours.2. Receiving donations from the public (clothes, homeware, books etc), sorting and ensuring these are either stored or disposed of properly.3. Providing friendly and efficient customer service. This will include having a welcoming and friendly attitude, informing customers about activities at the Eco-Hub and providing appropriate help when needed.4. Arranging and organising displays at the Eco-Hub – this could include the clothes at the Swap Shop, homeware for the Student2Student Essentials offerings, leaflets and books in the Resource Library and plants in the Plant Swap.5. Overseeing event happenings, this includes supporting the set up and take down of events in the space. For example, this could include setting up a sewing session or supporting the setup of an evening time film screening with a student society.6. Taking account of daily targets such as attendance and totals earned, then updating our systems to reflect this data. Pulling together reports on data7. Take requests for event bookings from student groups and work with the Eco-Hub manager to ensure all details relating to events are properly documented.8. Encouraging customers to fill out questionnaires so the Eco-Hub can have accurate data, then feedback any useful information recorded to the Eco-Hub manager.9. Operate a till system, process card payments, and handle returns and exchanges.10. Preparing the coffee and tea station for customers.11. Representing the Eco-Hub and promoting events and activities at the Eco-Hub like the Bike Hub and sustainable workshops.12. Following procedures like cleaning schedules, safety regulations, and other precautions and requirements.13. Always engaging in appropriate behaviour and representing the Eco-Hub in a positive light.14. Working with Eco-Hub volunteers to ensure the day to day running of the space is successful, this may involve keeping volunteers informed about Eco-Hub happenings and adding items to the volunteer to do-list.Requirements:• Eco-Hub Assistants will be contracted to work a minimum of 150 hours over the course of their contract, which will start on September 1st, 2026, and terminate on 30th June 2027.• Eco-Hub Assistants will report to the Eco-Hub Manager and will work with the manager to create a suitable working schedule that will depend on the Eco-Hub assistant’s availability. There is a presumption that Eco-Hub assistants will work approximately 4-6 hours per week during term-time.• This presumption is flexible, recognising that as students, you may not be able to work as many hours at certain points of the year.
